What does a 4x4 Snorkel do?

Safari Snorkels are designed as an extension of the air intake for your engine, taking air from the top of the roof and funneling it down to the air filter in the engine bay. By having the joints in the snorkel and air filter watertight this enables your vehicle to perform water crossings by having the air intake higher than the level of water you are crossing.

Sitting at roof height, snorkels have the added benefit of being in clean air when travelling along dusty bush tracks. It will make life a lot easier for your air filter as it won't clog up as quickly, thereby providing real engine performance benefits as well as cooler air.

How deep can I go with a 4x4 Snorkel?

Just because you have a snorkel fitted to your 4 wheel drive it does not mean you can go into water halfway up your windscreen. When attempting to cross water it is important to make sure your you know the depth your vehicle is rated at and how deep the water is before you drive into it. If you go to deep with a strong current, the vehicle can float away and eventually sink.
