Popular Questions Asked
How do snatch straps work?
To successfully use a snatch strap both vehicles must have sufficient anchor or tow hooks to enable attachment of the strap between vehicles. This will be done via D shackles and a solid attachment is needed to combat the force used by the strap. Always familiarise yourself with correct safety precautions and attachment to the recovery point as you may require an equaliser strap
Once firmly attached to both vehicles the recovery vehicle will drive forward at pace to stretch the snatch strap from one vehicle to the stuck second vehicle. The snatch strap will expand by 20 - 30 percent and then will contract to 'snatch' the stuck vehicle from its location.
If insufficient space exists for the recovery vehicle to gain a decent run up then other methods of extraction will need to be looked at such as using a winch or shovel.
What are snatch straps made of?
Made from nylon your snatch strap will be both hard wearing whilst also conforming to a range of Australian standards. These standards and the markings on the snatch strap will show the batch or serial number, and the minimum breaking strength of the strap.
This minimum breaking strength should be between two and three times the Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) which is the weight of your vehicle when fully laden
What is the difference between a snatch strap and a winch extension strap?
Whilst both look very similar a snatch strap will have the ability to stretch while the winch extension strap does not. A winch extension strap is used when you may run out of winch cable and can be used in conjunction with a tree trunk protector if you are needing a tree as an anchor point
