Fit a Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems from Repco for easy and accurate tyre pressure information
Don't suffer uneven tyre wear, unpredictable handling or the possibility of a tyre blowout when you can fit a Tyre pressure monitoring system from Repco. A TPMS is your quick and accurate way to see the tyre pressures of all 4 tyres and top up with air if needed. Repco stock a wide range of quality TPMS products from DriveTech, Maxi Trac and Repco to give you the best choice in TPMS systems. Stay safe on the road and have up to date detail on the tyre pressures on your vehicle.
Tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) are becoming standard on a lot of vehicles due to their simplicity and useful information. If your vehicle does not have an inbuilt TPMS you can easily add this feature to your vehicle by purchasing a standalone tyre pressure monitoring system from Repco. A TPMS is a great safety tool as you can instantly see when a tyre is losing air pressure through a slow leak or sudden puncture. Comprising 4 or 5 sensors you can even attach a TMPS sensor to your spare tyre to advise on low pressure when tucked away in your boot. The built in functionality of a TPMS can advise when a tyre pressure reaches a certain critical air level for your peace of mind.
The simplicity of a TPMS is that they are a wireless system except for the power to the main display unit. Being cordless makes installation of your TPMS simple and all you need to do is pair the tyre sensors to the control unit and program the pressures you need your tyres to operate within.
While tyre pressure monitoring systems are more commonly used on your car they are just as capable of monitoring carvan, trailer or boat trailer tyres as you tow. When fitted to a car you can feel when a tyre is insufficiently inflated and needs to be checked. This is not so easy when towing a trailer as you have no real feeling of what is going on behind you, so adding these sensors to your trailer valve stems ensures you can get tyre pressure as the touch of button while clocking up the kilometres. If you tow a loaded trailer regularly then a TPMS is a must have safety item.
There are 2 main types of tyre pressure monitoring systems available and various features for each. There are-
- Direct TPMS - This type of TPMS uses a sensor in or on the valve stem to measure tyre pressure. They can be mounted inside the rim for protection and to stop theft. Aftermarket TPMS are this type but are usually a cap that screws onto the valve stem.
Indirect TPMS - An Indirect TPMS uses the vehicles computer and a bunch of parameters to work out the circumference of the wheel. If it gets smaller and the rotational speed increases compared to the other tyres, the wheel is going flat.
When replacing worn tyres it is worth servicing your TPMS while you are at it. Simply inspect the seal and cap once they have come off your wheel to see if any visible signs of damage are present. From there and once the tyres are back on your vehicle test to verify the TPMS is getting the correct air pressure readings from the sensors. Checking or replacing sensor batteries if applicable is also a good idea to ensure troublefree performance of your system.
