Emergency and Personal Locator Beacons available at Repco

Repco stock the best in GME PLBs and EPIRBs to keep you safe in any environment

When setting off on your next adventure be sure to not leave home without a quality Personal Locator Beacon from Repco. Repco stock the outstanding GME range of locator beacons to provide tracking and location details should an emergency arise. Whether a GME PLB or an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB), it pays to make the investment in this crucial piece of safety equipment prior to getting out there.

GME set the standard in outdoor communication and this includes their 2 world class emergency locator beacons. These emergency devices are an exceptionally good investment for those that like go beyond the roads and mobile phone coverage offered by most networks. A GME EPIRB or PLB operates without the need for mobile phone coverage or needing you to go the expense of a satellite phone if you strike trouble. Once you have activated the beacon it signals to emergency satellites your coordinates to then relay to emergency services. From there it is a case of staying put and being as visible and prominent as possible to enable safe rescue.

A Personal Locator Beacon or EPIRB uses GPS or satellite network global positioning system to track the beacons signal and the search and rescue authorities then send out the closest rescue team to your location. Be it at sea or on land. These beacons and tracking systems are purely for critical emergencies and misuse or incorrect use is both costly and consuming on time and resources. They should only ever be used when all other avenues have been exhausted and imminent danegr is present.

Your Personal Locator Beacon or EPIRB does not allow communication and simply emits a radio signal for the rescue coordination centre to home in and find you. As you need to register your device you will also be required to list contact details of family members who will then be contacted by emergency staff prior to your rescue.

Why do you need an emergency locator beacon?

If you are the adventurous type and like going off the beaten track, heading to the most remote locations in the most rugged wilderness or heading far out to sea, then you won't need this. The reason is adventurous people have supreme confidence in their abilities so nothing will go wrong. If you are a family member or close friend of an adventurous person, then for their safety, you need to buy them one.

Will the emergency locator beacon work overseas?

The answer to this is yes and no. The Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) is a no, the Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) is a yes.

PLB - All of Australia only including 2 nautical miles out to sea.

EPIRB - Designed for boats and yachts sailing on the seas. You could be halfway to Africa and activate it. Rescue craft will be sent from the nearest point to look for you.
