Panels and Rust Repair Sections from Rare Spares
Must older classic cars, unless well looked after suffer some form of rust damage over their lifetime. Rusts tends to happen from the inside out. Trapped dirt and dust in a door or lower front guard behind the front wheel, when wet slowly starts the process. The first you know about it is paint bubbling on the outside of the door or lower guard. If left unchecked, it will get slowly worse.
To effectively treat it, the panel needs to be replaced with a new panel or the offending piece cut out and replaced with new metal. A new panel for an old car can cost a fortune if you can find one. Thanks to Rare Spares a reproduction replacement panel or rust repair section may be available. A rust repair section is the part of the panel that has corroded or suffers from corrosion. This is usually always a lower section like a lower door skin or even entire panels like rocker panels.
Rust Repair Sections
Rare Spare make the rust repair panels slightly larger than needed so they act as patch panels and you can cut them to size with an angle grinder. These pieces match the pieces cut out of the rusted panel. They are then welded into place. If the panel is really bad, and Rare Spares make a replacement, then changing it over makes sense. It takes time to weld in rust repair patches. Replacing the panel may be a cheaper alternative.
Battery Trays
Another area that suffers from corrosion is the battery tray. This is caused by battery acid and causes the trays to corrode. (white powdery substance) Usually caused by an old or dying battery that has been left in there for too long. Rare Spares make reproduction trays and tray support brackets for certain models.
