Car Fuel and Exhaust Systems by Rare Spares

When taking a country cruise in your classic car one of the most important things to know is how much fuel is in the tank. You need to make sure your fuel gauge is reading correctly, otherwise you could find yourself in a spot of bother.

Fuel gauge reading incorrectly?

Most of the classic Holdens and Fords use the float style fuel gauge. A float in the tank moves up and down depending on fuel level which then varies the resistance of the sender it is connected to in the tank. The sender causes the needle in the gauge move up and down with the float.

These were always prone to 'missing' sections. By that, I mean it may read OK for the first half of the tank from full to half empty. Then it gets stuck on half empty and next time you look out it, you are nearly out of fuel as the gauge is on empty. This sender gets worn over time which causes the inaccurate readings. Rare Spares now make a range of reproduction senders for most Ford or Holdens that use these. The sender is usually connected to the fuel pick-up and they are both replaced as a single unit.

Accelerator too stiff or too sloppy?

Accelerators on your classic can be a linkage or a cable set-up. Both get worn over time and parts need to be replaced. Cables can stretch, stiffen up or break. Linkages wear and can get sloppy or have a lot of play before they operate. This can cause them to bind up. Return springs can lose their tension and are found on both setups. Even the plastic or rubber accelerator pedals wear out over time. Rare Spares have the parts to service both set-ups on your classic car and give you back that throttle control.

Fuel tank rusted?

This is not uncommom in classic cars as boots can leak water as seals deteriorate around the boot, rear window or tail lights. Sometimes petrol tanks corrode from within if not used for a long time. Rare Spares have complete fuel tank replacement kits for classic Holdens and Fords. The also have a good range of spare parts as well.

Need a locking Petrol Cap?

Whether you need a locking or non-locking fuel cap, Rare Spares has a good range to choose from.

There are other parts like fuel pumps, gaskets, nuts and bolts. It is not just parts for the fuel system, there is also a range of exhaust hangers, gaskets, clamps studs, nuts and bolts for the exhaust system.
