Car Transmission, Clutch and Diff parts from Rare Spares
All the classic cars have either a manual gearbox or automatic transmission to provide a number of different gears to make the engines job easier. The difference between the classics and a modern car is the numbers of gears have increased in both types. From 3 to 4 in a manual gearbox to 6 and over and from 2 to 3 in an automatic transmission to 5 and over. Both types will have an overdrive.
The big reason for this is fuel economy. Your engine does not need to work as hard if you give it more gear ratio's. It will push the car forward with less effort. Less effort means it uses less fuel and once it has reached cruising speed overdrive can reduce the engines workload even more. Rare Spares make a range of parts to keep your manual or auto functioning on your classic and keep you cruising down the road.
Clutch pedal not disengaging the clutch?
This can be caused by a failure in your clutch actuating mechanism. There are 2 types -
Cable - Cables can stretch and snap. Replacing them is straightforward and there are simple adjustments you need to do after installation to get it working right for you. The also have springs which can fail on the odd occasion.
Hydraulic - Just like a brake system with a master cylinder that operates a slave cylinder with hydraulic fluid. (Most use brake fluid) These are prone to leaks and occasional failures. You only replace the one that has failed.
Luckily Rare Spares have parts for both cable and hydraulic systems.
Auto Trans playing up?
Rare Spares have a bunch of products to suit early automatic transmissions. The range includes gaskets and filter kits to service them, kick down cables, transmission mounts and other miscellaneous parts.
Loud clunk when accelerating or deaccelerating from the rear of the car?
Whether you have an auto or manual in your classic you can get the same problem. If you accelerate or deaccelerate harder does the clunk get worse? This can be a worn universal joint in the tailshaft. When worn they can clunk as the slack is taken up when engine power is added and released when engine power is reduced. If not them, it maybe the diff centre which is a much more expensive fix. Rare Spares have a range of universal joints and centre bearings to keep your tailshaft in good condition.
