Repco has a Deep Cycle Battery perfect for your power needs

Finding the Right Deep Cycle Battery

Find the right deep cycle battery at Repco and get out and enjoy the great outdoors. Whether you need an AGM battery for your caravan or deep cycle batteries to connect to your camping solar setup, we have a number of quality deep cycle batteries to choose from. Designed to be durable, reliable and with the capacity for long term storage, a deep cycle battery will excel in a whole host of applications where portable battery power is needed.

Repco stock a range of quality deep cycle batteries from Century, Optima, and Repco.

Understanding Deep Cycle Batteries

Unlike starter batteries, which deliver a high burst of energy to start engines, deep cycle batteries are built for deep, consistent discharges, making them ideal for vehicles like caravans, RVs, boats, and off-grid solar systems. Theyre also commonly used in backup power systems and other energy storage applications.

Deep cycle batteries are constructed to withstand frequent charging and discharging cycles. This means they can be drained (or discharged) to a significant extent and recharged repeatedly without suffering major damage. In contrast, starting batteries are not built for deep discharges and may fail prematurely if subjected to similar usage.

They are also made with thicker plates and denser active material compared to regular batteries, enabling them to handle deeper discharges and frequent cycles without rapid degradation.

Deep Cycle Batteries vs Absorbent Glass Mat Batteries

Flooded lead acid battery is also known as a wet battery. They are different from sealed lead acid batteries. These batteries contain electrolyte that moves around the battery when charged the internal plates and battery acid react to store energy. These batteries need to be mounted upright to prevent spillage hence they need to be maintained and fluid levels checked regularly.

An AGM battery is maintenance-free and contains special glass mat separators that helps hold electrolytes between the battery plates. AGM batteries are optimal for vibration resistance and provide superior deep cycle performance, which is needed for maximum power.

AGM deep cycle batteries are used in marine systems, industrial equipment, trailers, camping, mobility scooters, and many other applications.

Charging your Deep Cycle Battery

Charging your deep cycle battery properly ensures the best possible battery health as well as efficient charge times. To ensure fast and effective charging we have a range of battery chargers that can be used externally or mounted in your vehicle to power your deep cycle battery.

Offering not just the best in deep cycle batteries we have all the battery accessories you need to get the most from them. Whether a suitable battery charger, a quality battery jumpstarter or a reliable battery isolator switch, we have all these and more online and in-store.

How often should I charge my deep cycle battery?

To prolong the life of a deep cycle battery, its recommended to recharge it before it drops below 50% of its capacity. Fully discharging a deep cycle battery repeatedly can shorten its lifespan. Regular charging after use ensures the battery remains healthy and performs optimally.

Can I use a deep cycle battery to start my car?

While deep cycle batteries are not designed for starting engines, in emergencies, they can be used to start a car. However, they lack the cranking amps (CA) required for consistent engine starts, so they should not replace a dedicated starter battery for vehicles.

Are deep cycle batteries maintenance-free?

Some deep cycle batteries, like AGM and gel types, are maintenance-free, meaning you wont need to top off the water or check electrolyte levels. However, flooded lead-acid batteries do require regular maintenance, including refilling with distilled water and checking the terminals for corrosion.
