How To Change Your Headlight Globes

Changing a headlight globe if one is blown is important, more so if in the country and if you drive at night-time. Even in the city having both headlights working helps other vehicles see you a lot easier and lights up poorly lit streets.

Headlight globes can be time consuming or very easy to change depending on your vehicle and the ease of access to the back of the headlamp to be able to change the globe.  Sometimes the passenger side may be simple and the driver’s side time consuming or vice-versa for the same vehicle.

Step By Step for Changing Your Headlight Globes

1
Order the correct headlight globe for your vehicle, based on your vehicle owner's manual.
2
Open the bonnet and remove the electrical plug/socket from the back of the globe. Depending on your vehicle there may be other items you need to remove or loosen to gain access.
3
Remove the old globe. Some are a twist type, while some have a metal clip holding them in. There may also be a large rubber boot around it to stop moisture and dust that needs removal.
4
Once the old globe is out, check it against the new globe to see if it matches. When handling the new globe do not touch the glass part with your bare fingers as it will damage it and the globe won’t work. Always hold it by the metal or plastic base.

Once checked and confirmed that it is a match, install the globe by reversing the removal procedure.

Once everything is back in its place, turn on the headlights and make sure the new globe works. Done correctly, it is very rewarding.
