Welcome to the jungle with quality small engine and lawn mower oil

Repco stock the best in 2 and 4 stroke oils for whatever needs power in your garden

When looking to power up your small engine or powered garden equipment you need the right formulation and viscosity of engine oil. Whether a 4 stroke lawn mower or a 2 stroke brushcutter we have a wide range of oils designed to offer the best in lubrication and engine protection. Choose quality garden and small engine oils from Penrite, Castrol, Valvoline and Repco all engineered to stand up to long hours and torturous conditions.

Differences between a 4 stroke lawn mower oil and regular vehicle engine oil

Lawn mower oil and engine oil are both lubricants designed to reduce friction and wear in engines, but they can differ in formulation and application based on the type of engine they are used in. Here are some key differences:

Viscosity and Additives:

  • Lawn Mower Oil: Typically formulated for small engines, such as those found in lawn mowers, which may operate at different temperatures and speeds compared to car engines. It may have specific additives to handle the unique conditions of small engines.
  • Engine Oil (Automotive): Designed for larger, more complex automotive engines. This oil often contains a different blend of additives to protect against high temperatures, pressure, and contaminants found in automotive environments.

Oil Type:

  • Lawn Mower Oil: Often available in single-grade formulations (like SAE 30 oil) which are suitable for the operating conditions of many small engines. 4 stroke engine oils have a higher concentration of additives. These include detergents, dispersants, anti-wear substances, pour point depressants, and foam retardants.
  • Engine Oil: Typically multi-grade (like 5W-30 or 10W-30), which allows your engine oil to perform well across a wider range of temperatures, making it suitable for the varying conditions encountered by cars.

Engine Design:

  • Lawn Mower Engines: Generally simpler, air-cooled, and operate at a constant speed, 4 stroke oil may not require the advanced formulations necessary for automotive engines.
  • Automotive Engines: More complex, often liquid-cooled, and operate at varying speeds and loads, requiring oils that can handle more extreme conditions.

Its important to use the oil recommended by the manufacturer for your specific engine type. Using the wrong type of oil can lead to suboptimal performance or even damage. In summary, while both types of oil serve the same basic function of lubrication and protection, they are optimized for different types of engines and operating conditions. Always refer to your equipment's manual for the recommended oil type and specifications.
