Lowering Blocks

Lowering blocks are a performance modification for vehicles with leaf springs. They simply drop the height of the vehicle so it sits lower to the ground. Apart from a cool stance it lowers the centre of gravity which improves handling. They are relatively cheap and easy to install compared to changing a spring.

The blocks come in different sizes depending on how much you want to lower the vehicle. Blocks sizes are 1.5, 2 and 2.5 inches and have lengthened U-Bolts to replace the existing ones. Make sure you get the right kit for your vehicle so the blocks and U-bolts fit.

Popular Questions Asked

How do Lowering Blocks work?

Leaf springs normally support a beam axle that sits on top of the centre of the spring. It is clamped to the spring by U-bolts and brackets. All a lowering block does is sit between the axle and the spring. This moves the axle closer to the body which lowers the vehicle.

What do I need to look out for when Lowering the vehicle?

The leaf spring is OK and if the shock absorber is mounted off the leaf spring base plate this is also OK as you have not changed how they operate. If you have a rear sway bar on the diff you may need to shorten the links to the body by the same amount as the lowering block.

The next thing is clearances. The lower you go the more likely you are to come into contact with another underbody component. The exhaust is one and check fuel and brake lines for clearance. Also check rim and tire clearances.

Remember that your leaf spring and lower shock mount are now closer to the ground so your rear ground clearance has been reduced.
